Thank you so much for this buyers insight! I have a craft fair coming soon, and will definitely put your wonderful advice into action.

I will hopefully be attending my first craft fair (as a vendor) at the beginning of December... this list will be invaluable! Thanks :)

cm

wonderful work here--especially no prices--i printed this list out and i'm going to use it religiously at my first fair coming up.

zoe stewart

hi, a lot of usefull stuff, although you mae a mistake in your list of mistakes, your 10 mistakes are actually 11, lol you have #9 twice, hehe :)

but theyre great, i have a fair in 2 weeks, yikes, so thank you! x

zoe stewart

you see thats what i get for noticing something haha you have no 6 twice not 9, duh, you can tell i paid attention t what i typed! x

Jamie

I have to agree with all your tips. I'm not a veteran by any means, but not a newbie either. I do shows to promote my site at times, but I like custom orders, so don't usually like to have a bunch of "stock" made up. I like that my customers get to help "build their own"

Thanks for all the info! Some things I already do but a few I missed. Thanks for the reminder. :)

Jenni Pagano

Great list!
One more...don't stand in front of your tables chatting with friends who came to visit. Buyers will not cross the gauntlet of happy huggers to see your stuff. If you can, move your fans to a side area or an empty spot. And don't block your neighbor's tables either!

Kim

Fabulous list! Thank you! I am doing my first craft show this weekend, so I am happy to get whatever info I can!

Thank you so much for sharing... there are some great points here. Sara x

All good points! I never thought of the sign as being important.

I'd like to add, it's a BIG turn-off to be complaining about the show with shoppers in your booth.
Last weekend, another crafter entered my booth while shoppers were in there & proceeded to gripe profusely about what a bad show it was & how she wasn't selling much... It was awful! I didn't know what to do.

Uli

This is a great list. Thank you for sharing. I ran into the issue with friends stopping by my booth to chat while I was trying to talk to and help customers - very, very distracting - for everyone. The customers need to be the focus....

Jamie

Hey, I just wanted to say thanks for this. You give some really great show advice! I've never done one but hope to do one next year, and I'll be sure to keep all of this stuff in mind!!!

CricketsHandknits

One thing that really, really helps me sell my handknit scarves at craft fairs is having a mirror available and encouraging shoppers to touch, try one, etc my scarves. Seeing how beautiful they look in my designs gives shoppers the confidence to buy.

Also, I always wear a funky, noticeable outfit and model at least one of my scarves at all times--it seems like people always want to buy the one that I have on!

Jen

I am about to participate in my first craft fair. I had heard a lot of these pet peeves, and felt decently prepared- I still do- but you can bet I will be BETTER prepared now. Thank you.

Julia

Thanks for all the tips! Love it. I'm just trying to get into doing shows/fairs, and I'll try to keep all this in mind.

From the buyer's perspective, while chatting about product & general things is great, I would add that vendors should try to avoid the hard sell where you push info on people who didn't ask for it and are (obviously) not interested. Be excited about your goods but don't be pushy. I've had that happen to me a couple times and its a major turn off.

Thanks!

Cat Mallard

great tips! thanks so much :)

Stockton

This is a great post (I'm hoping to start showing at craft fairs in a year's time) ... thanks for the tips!

Lynn

Good tips. Thanks for putting them all together.

Julie

Great article and advice. I've done some craft fairs before and I've found most everything listed here to be true - from the seller's perspective and the buyer's perspective. Thanks for all the tips!

Moonmystic

Great tips. I do a lot of shows, but I do not have a sign. Thanks for reminder.

Another pet peeve- not having change.

Marge in Reno

Excellent article! Kudos to you and your expertise.

marlena

WONDERFUL ideas/info! i am guilty of a couple of these from time to time (chatting with my friend when we used to share a booth! now she has her own booth and i help my hubby with his).
my hubby and i have been vending at a local craft market for years and we have learned a lot of these lessons by trial and error. i think this will help many many new vendors. thanks for your input!
